From St. Paul's Outside the Walls to the Abbazia delle Tre Fontane

In the past, this route from St. Paul's Outside the Walls to the Abbazia delle Tre Fontane meandered through open country across the fields to the south of Rome. In the last forty years however, urban sprawl has made it into a walk through the southern periphery of the capital. Starting at the impressive basilica dedicated to the Apostle, you walk along the Ostian Way as far as the intersection with Via Laurentina. The itinerary guides you through built-up areas alternating with open spaces until it reaches the old Cistercian abbey of the Three Fountains located at "Aquas Salvias", the place where St. Paul was beheaded.
